The boundary

Formula Adaptation starts from an existing DAT Supply formula and changes its ingredients, actives or dosage.

A supported flavour, colour or existing shape without a formula change is Personalization, configured on your order. A genuinely new formula, R&D or compliance work is a Custom Project.

Development fee

Formula Adaptation: €1,750 ($1,950 in the US)

One existing DAT Supply formula, one brief, one sample round — paid upfront, at the end of your project brief.

What the fee covers

Included

  • One defined brief, starting from an existing DAT Supply formula
  • Adaptation of that formula: ingredients, actives, dosage, serving or compatible components
  • Ingredient and dosage assessment
  • Preliminary regulatory and technical review appropriate to development
  • One sample-production round with up to 3 flavours
  • Final formula and product specification
  • Production quotation

Not included

  • Production itself — quoted separately
  • A second development or sample round
  • A material change of product or formula direction
  • A guarantee that the original concept is manufacturable exactly as requested
  • A genuinely new formula with no suitable DAT Supply base, new-product R&D, scientific research, due diligence, bespoke testing or compliance work — handled as Custom Projects
Development-fee credit

An agreed percentage of the development fee can be credited against your first production order, depending on its volume.

From brief to production quotation

How it works

The development fee is fixed; production is quoted once you approve the formula and specification.

  1. Step 01

    Choose your starting formula

In your DAT Supply account: pick the existing DAT Supply product or formula closest to yours, then say what changes — actives, dosage, ingredients or serving — with quantity per SKU and markets. The brief costs nothing; the development fee is paid once the scope is confirmed.

  2. Step 02

    Adapt and sample

DAT Supply adapts the formulation, assesses the ingredients and dosage, and produces one sample round with up to 3 flavours.

  3. Step 03

    Approve the specification

You approve the sample, the adapted formula and the product specification. A second round or a new formula direction is not part of the fee.

  4. Step 04

    Production quotation

Production is quoted separately once the formula and specification are approved. Once ordered, it runs as a production order in your account.

Production

Formula Adaptation production minimum per SKU

Production is quoted separately once the formula and specification are approved. Sample lead time is approximately 4–8 weeks, depending on the number of sample iterations needed to reach a commercially acceptable result. Standard production lead time is approximately 8 weeks after formula/specification, artwork and payment are approved. Shipping/transit is additional.

Export Project

Selling outside the EU, the UK and the US

An Export Project applies on top of either offer: the formula decides Private Label or Formula Adaptation, and the destination decides the Export Project.

How it works

Scoped with you, case by case

Standard Private Label covers the EU, the UK and the US. Delivery anywhere else is handled as an Export Project, from the applicable export minimum: once commercial fit is confirmed, DAT Supply scopes the market-specific documentation, compliance, freight and payment with you, and third-party, government, legalisation and testing costs are passed through where applicable.

Custom Projects

Need something beyond formula adaptation?

A genuinely new formula is handled as a Custom Project. R&D, due diligence, compliance, bespoke testing and other technical requirements are handled as Custom Projects and reviewed individually.

FAQ

Formula Adaptation questions

When is it Formula Adaptation instead of Private Label?

When you adapt the formula: Formula Adaptation starts from an existing DAT Supply formula and changes its ingredients, actives, dosage, serving or compatible components. An unchanged formula is Private Label. A supported flavour, colour or existing shape on an existing product, with no formula change, is Personalization — configured on your order, with an optional Personalization Sample where the product offers one. A genuinely new formula, R&D, due diligence, compliance work or other major technical requirements are Custom Projects. Quantity alone never makes an order a Formula Adaptation: an unchanged catalogue formula stays Private Label at any volume, and a run above the published pricing ladder is a Private Label volume quote. Export alone never makes a project a Formula Adaptation either — delivery outside the EU, the UK and the US is an Export Project.

What if there is no DAT Supply formula to start from, or I need R&D, due diligence or compliance work?

That is a Custom Project, not Formula Adaptation — Formula Adaptation adapts an existing DAT Supply formula. A genuinely new formula is handled as a Custom Project. R&D, due diligence, compliance, bespoke testing and other technical requirements are handled as Custom Projects and reviewed individually. Every project is reviewed before acceptance. Scope, deliverables, timeline and commercial terms are agreed before work begins. Select "Submit a Custom Project" on this page to submit one for review.

What does the €1,750 ($1,950 in the US) Formula Adaptation service include?

Start from an existing DAT Supply formula and adapt ingredients, actives, dosage, serving or compatible components. The €1,750 Formula Adaptation service includes the defined development/sample process and production quotation. In the US, the service is $1,950. Included: One defined brief, starting from an existing DAT Supply formula; Adaptation of that formula: ingredients, actives, dosage, serving or compatible components; Ingredient and dosage assessment; Preliminary regulatory and technical review appropriate to development; One sample-production round with up to 3 flavours; Final formula and product specification; Production quotation. Not included: Production itself — quoted separately; A second development or sample round; A material change of product or formula direction; A guarantee that the original concept is manufacturable exactly as requested; A genuinely new formula with no suitable DAT Supply base, new-product R&D, scientific research, due diligence, bespoke testing or compliance work — handled as Custom Projects. It is paid upfront, at the end of your project brief.

Is the development fee credited against production?

An agreed percentage of the development fee can be credited against your first production order, depending on its volume.

What production minimum applies?

The Formula Adaptation production minimum per SKU — Gummies: 3,000 units per SKU; Gummy sachets: 3,000 packs per SKU; Powder sticks: 60,000 sticks per SKU; Jelly sticks: 60,000 sticks per SKU; Oral strips: 5,000 boxes and at least 75,000 strips per SKU; Pet soft chews: 3,000 units per SKU. Production is quoted separately once the formula and specification are approved.

How long does it take?

Sample lead time is approximately 4–8 weeks, depending on the number of sample iterations needed to reach a commercially acceptable result. Standard production lead time is approximately 8 weeks after formula/specification, artwork and payment are approved. Shipping/transit is additional.

Can you work with a standard formula at higher volume?

Yes — and it stays Private Label. Quantity alone never makes an order a Formula Adaptation: an unchanged catalogue formula stays Private Label at any volume, and a run above the published pricing ladder is a Private Label volume quote. Request one from the product page.

Do you handle export?

Standard Private Label covers the EU, the UK and the US. Delivery anywhere else is handled as an Export Project, from the applicable export minimum: once commercial fit is confirmed, DAT Supply scopes the market-specific documentation, compliance, freight and payment with you, and third-party, government, legalisation and testing costs are passed through where applicable. The formula still decides Private Label or Formula Adaptation.

How do I start?

Select "Start your Formula Adaptation project" to open the project brief in your DAT Supply account: choose the existing DAT Supply formula you start from, then the changes. Writing the brief costs nothing; the €1,750 ($1,950 in the US) fee is paid at the end of it, once the scope is confirmed.
